Masaniamman is not the regular form, we normally see in all temples Mother Goddess will in standing or sitting position.  Mother goddess idol is about 15 feet tall.

Here mother goddess posture of statue looks different , because statue is placed in lying position and slightly head lifted.

Mother goddess has four hands, two hands  placed over ground, on one hand she holds a damaru and on the other hand holds a trident, while the other two hands raised upwards in one hand with a skull and other with snake.

In front of the Mother goddess is small serpent-like a stone, known as the Neethi kal peoples belief as Stone of Justice.

People who have lost their belongings/property and  being harassed by their foes, smear red chilli paste on this stone. Their belief that who ever troubles them is punished by goddess.

Goddess helps her devotees find their way out of trouble. Many of them write about their problems on a piece of paper, which is then placed on the deity's trident by the priest.  It's like a cal people believe that within 19 days the Goddess responds to their prayers. Mostly people come on Tuesdays and Friday are auspicious to goddess. The fire-walking festival is held on the 17th day after full moon day in the month of Thai (January-February) celebrated.

According to Temple history ,  region around here was ruled by Nanan, a chieftain.  He was a sort of a tyrant, with special attachment for a mango grove on the banks of the Aliyar.  Nobody was allowed to touch the mangoes or even the leaves.  It is said that a young woman, who was bathing in the river, found a fallen mango floating on  the waters and not able to resist temptation women taken and ate that mango. Nanan was furious when women ate mango.  Then woman was brought judgement before him he sentenced her to death. Nanan didn't hear the excuse and  pleading from either the women and her family members.  Then villagers rise against injustice and started revolt against the ruler and killed him in the  battle.

They also erected a statue in graveyard for  Masanam. Then she began to  worshiped as goddess Masani Amman.

Also some people is said  that  Sri Ram visited this place and stayed in the graveyard. When in search Sita, Ram was in graveyard.  Another version says that Ram who craves Goddess in clay in order to  earning her grace before setting to go to Sri Lankanka.

The temple is off the main highway and is just a five minute walk from the highway.

Feel the positiveness.!!!
